Project Engineer

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Operations Project Engineer to identify, develop and deliver engineering improvement projects across a portfolio of water and wastewater treatment facilities operating under DBO contracts across the Midlands region.
Working closely with operational teams and clients, you will manage projects from initial assessment and proposal development through to approval, installation, commissioning and handover. This is a client-facing role requiring strong engineering expertise, project management capability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Key Responsibilities

Identify engineering improvement opportunities through site visits and engagement with operational teams.

Develop practical solutions to improve plant performance, safety, reliability and maintainability.

Prepare technical and commercial project proposals, including cost estimates and project programmes.

Present proposals to clients and provide technical support throughout the approval process.

Manage projects through procurement, installation, commissioning and final handover.

Coordinate internal resources and subcontractors to ensure safe, timely and cost-effective project delivery.

Monitor project budgets, costs and progress throughout the project lifecycle.

Prepare project documentation including RAMS, progress reports and close-out documentation.

Ensure compliance with company HSQE standards, statutory requirements and industry best practice.

Maintain strong client relationships and provide regular project updates.
Essential Requirements

Degree or Higher National qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Process or Environmental Engineering.

Minimum 5 years' experience delivering engineering projects.

Experience managing projects from concept through to completion.

Strong understanding of engineering design, procurement, commissioning and contractor management.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Commercial awareness and cost control experience.

Full driving licence.
Desirable Requirements

Experience within the water and wastewater sector.

Experience working on live operational process plants.

Knowledge of DBO contracts.

Chartered Engineer status, or working towards chartership.

Experience in asset improvement and optimisation projects.
