At Coventure Tax Consulting we are looking for an experienced tax professional to join our growing Dublin team. We're a boutique tax consultancy practice founded almost 20 years ago. We're also the firm behind Tax Unwrapped, a growing digital and social media brand, which publishes practical tax commentary and explain complex Irish tax issues to a wider audience.
This role is technical with hands on experience dealing with clients on interesting and complex tax matters.
The Role
This role is almost exclusively pure consulting and assignments vary considerably. On any given week you will multi-task on multiple cases, for example:-
- Advising on business acquisitions and sales, management buyouts, corporate reorganisations and restructurings, including pre-sale planning, holding company structures, share-for-share exchanges, deferred consideration, earn-outs and transaction tax issues.
- Advising high-net-worth individuals and families on estate and succession planning, including lifetime transfers, family business succession, trusts, foundations, family partnerships, family investment companies and the interaction between CGT, gift and inheritance tax and stamp duty.
- Advising expatriates, non-domiciled individuals and returning Irish residents on relocating to or returning to Ireland, including residence and domicile, remittance basis planning, offshore funds, foreign pensions, foreign employment and professional income, 401(k)s, IRAs, overseas trusts and pre-arrival restructuring.
- Working directly with business owners on tax-efficient cash extraction strategies, including salary and dividends, pensions, share buybacks, capital reductions, holding company structures, retirement planning and extracting value in advance of a future sale.
- Designing and implementing employee share schemes and management incentive arrangements, including growth shares, share options and equity structures for key employees and management teams.
- Advising on property acquisitions, disposals and restructurings where VAT, stamp duty, CGT, financing and ownership structures interact, including transactions involving companies, investors, developers and family-owned property.
- Handling Revenue audits, investigations and other interventions from initial correspondence through to settlement, including preparing disclosures, negotiating tax and penalties, challenging Revenue positions and managing technically complex disputes.
- Acting on tax appeals and contentious matters, including preparing cases for the Tax Appeals Commission, working with counsel and other advisers, dealing with evidence and documentation, and supporting judicial review and High Court proceedings where required.You will research technical issues, draft tax opinions, meet clients and work alongside solicitors, barristers, accountants, valuers and other specialists.
You will regularly work alongside solicitors, barristers, accountants, valuers and other specialists. The role involves substantial direct client contact. We want someone who can understand the technical tax position, but also understand what the client is actually trying to achieve and have good commercial judgement.
The Ideal Candidate
- AITI/CTA qualified.
- Preferably a minimum of two years post qualification experience in a private client, corporate, international or tax role.
- A legal or accounting qualification would be an advantage but is not essential.
