About the role
We are a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing company employing 130 people, producing metal stampings, welded assemblies, and machined components for the automotive, yellow goods, and other industrial sectors. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our engineering team and take ownership of press tool design from concept through to production.
Key responsibilities
- Design and develop press tools, progressive dies, and jigs and fixtures using CAD software
- Produce detailed 2D drawings and 3D models for tooling, components, and assemblies
- Collaborate with the production, quality, and estimating teams from design concept through to sign-off
- Evaluate and interpret customer component drawings and specifications, assessing feasibility and manufacturability
- Support new product introduction (NPI) and engineering change management processes
- Provide technical support for tool trials, press proving, and first-off sample approvals
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities across tooling and manufacturing processes
- Maintain and manage the engineering drawing register and document control system
What we're looking for
- Minimum 10 years' hands-on experience in press tool and die design within a metal stamping or sheet metal environment
- Preferably experience working in automotive industry to IATF16949 standards
- Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (we use VISI but experience in SolidWorks, CATIA, or equivalent is sufficient)
