The Architectural Conservation Officer will play a cross-departmental role, to:
- Provide specialist input to assist in the Council’s delivery of its Forward and Development Management functions, including through the assessment of proposed works to protected structures and / or within Architectural Conservation Areas; assessment of the impacts of unauthorised development on the built heritage and the initiation of actions to re-dress same; participation in relevant pre-planning consultations; development of an enhanced built heritage and conservation policy framework and associated design guidance tailored to the unique heritage of County Roscommon; and undertaking a detailed review of the Record of Protected Structures and designated or potential expanded or new Architectural Conservation Areas;
- Assist in regeneration and development initiatives in the towns and villages of County Roscommon, including providing input into the development of heritage / conservation led regeneration projects and the associated preparation of funding applications for same;
- Provide advice and guidance to all Council Departments as relevant to ensure the protection and appropriate use of protected structures;
- In collaboration with the Heritage Officer, to increase public awareness of the value of the built heritage of County Roscommon, as well as the obligations on property and landowners to protect and conserve the built heritage and the mechanisms available to assist.
The Architectural Conservation Officer will be a member of the Planning Department and will also actively engage with the Council’s Regeneration Team, Heritage Team and Culture Team, and will participate in the County Heritage Forum.
The Architectural Conservation Officer will report to the Senior Planner in the Planning Department or the Senior Executive Planner in the Forward Planning Team within the Department or as otherwise directed by the Chief Executive.
