Splashworld Tramore is a community-owned, not-for-profit leisure centre providing fun, fitness, leisure and training opportunities to our members and the wider community.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, energetic and experienced Duty Manager to join our team. This is a key operational role supporting the safe day-to-day running of the centre and maintaining a consistently high standard of customer service.
The Role
Reporting to the Assistant General Manager and General Manager, the Duty Manager works closely with both as part of the Management Team.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing management position working across all core areas of the centre - Gym, Main Reception, Pool and Pool Plant Room. Delivering swimming lessons is a core part of the role, alongside your management duties. You will supervise and support staff during your shifts, maintain high standards of service and safety, and help create a welcoming environment for everyone who uses the facility.
You will communicate with a diverse range of customers, including members of the public, children and young people, community groups, group leaders and teachers.
Key Responsibilities
People & Leadership
- Provide effective leadership and supervision during assigned shifts.
- Delegate daily tasks and ensure they are completed to the required standard.
- Support the training, development and performance of team members.
Operations, Health & Safety
- Ensure high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and presentation throughout the centre.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety and legal requirements.
- Respond appropriately to accidents, incidents and emergencies.
- Support the safe operation of the pool plant and associated systems.
- Act as a designated key holder - opening and closing the building and responding to emergency callouts as required.
- Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
Teaching & Programmes
- Deliver structured swimming lessons to children across multiple levels as part of your regular roster.
- Support swimmer progression using agreed lesson frameworks.
- Lead aqua and fitness classes where qualified.
Customer & Community
- Promote excellent customer service and deal professionally with queries, complaints and difficult situations.
- Organise and oversee competitions, activities and events.
- Support schools, community groups and other organisations using the facility.
- Contribute ideas relating to marketing and customer engagement.
Commercial
- Provide input into budgeting and cost control.
- Purchase stock, materials and equipment where required and authorised.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery and the customer experience.
Essential Requirements
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Previous operational experience within the leisure industry.
- Experience in customer service, sales and day-to-day operations.
- Strong staff management, delegation and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards.
- Ability to remain calm, professional and decisive in a busy operational environment.
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
- A genuine passion for excellent customer service and supporting the local community.
- Availability to work a 7-day shift rota, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and public holidays.
Qualifications
Essential
- A current Water Safety Ireland Pool Lifeguard Award appropriate to the facility, or a recognised equivalent.
- A recognised qualification in gym or fitness instruction.
- A current first-aid qualification, or a commitment to complete the required qualification before undertaking independent Duty Manager shifts.
- A Swim Teaching qualification, or a willingness to complete one with our support — teaching is a core duty of this role.
Desirable
- Previous practical experience working in a gym or fitness environment.
- Pool Plant Operator qualification.
- REPs Ireland membership or eligibility for registration.
- Experience using Legend or another leisure-centre booking and membership system.
Training requirement Where the successful candidate does not already hold a Pool Plant Operator qualification, Splashworld will provide the necessary training. Completion of this qualification within an agreed period will be a requirement of the role.
Child Safeguarding
Splashworld works with children and young people. Appointment is subject to satisfactory Garda vetting and completion of Child Safeguarding training in line with the Children First Act 2015.
Pay
- Base Duty Manager rate: €16.22 per hour (€17.84 per hour on Sundays).
- Uplifts paid on top every time you teach or lead a session while on shift — swimming lessons, aqua classes and fitness classes each carry their own uplift, with swim lesson uplifts increasing at Level 1 and Level 2.
- In practice, Duty Managers with a regular teaching load earn an effective rate of €17.50–€19.50+ per hour, equivalent to approximately €33,000–€40,000 per year on a full-time roster.
- Public holiday pay and paid annual leave in addition.
