Townmore is a leading, dynamic Irish main contractor with a reputation for delivering high-quality construction projects across the commercial, residential, and civil engineering sectors. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a highly motivated Senior Accountant to join our finance team at our Tullamore Head Office.
ROLE PURPOSE
The Senior Accountant will own the day-to-day financial control and reporting for the business, with a particular focus on construction contract accounting. You will partner closely with Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, and site teams to ensure project financials are accurate. This role reports to the Financial Controller / Finance Director and provides critical support for month-end close, statutory compliance, and strategic business decisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) and own the month-end close process.
- Job Costing & WIP: Maintain accurate contract costing across live projects, review WIP schedules, and manage debtor/creditor retentions.
- Tax Compliance: Oversee subcontractor payment certifications, Relevant Contracts Tax (RCT) compliance, and VAT management (including reverse charge).
- Cash Flow & Treasury: Prepare rolling cash flow forecasts at both company and project levels.
- Sales & Debtors: Coordinate with the commercial team to ensure timely invoicing and proactive debtor collection.
- Team Management: Supervise, mentor, and develop junior finance staff while serving as a key point of contact for external auditors, banks, and Revenue.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualifications: Fully Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Experience: 4–6 years of post-qualification experience, ideally within construction, civil engineering, or a project-based industry.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in contract/job costing, WIP accounting, and Irish tax compliance (RCT & VAT).
- Software Skills: Advanced Excel skills; experience with construction ERP systems (e.g., ABM, COINS, Sage, Xero) is highly desirable.
- Communication: Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to explain financial data clearly to non-finance stakeholders and senior directors.
