About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Vehicle Paint Technician to join our automotive bodyshop team in Ireland. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, painting, refinishing and finishing of motor vehicles following accident repairs, refurbishment and bodywork repairs. The role requires a high level of technical ability, attention to detail and experience in automotive refinishing. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a professional bodyshop team while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety and productivity.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect vehicle bodywork and identify areas requiring preparation, painting and refinishing.
- Prepare vehicle surfaces by cleaning, degreasing, sanding and removing contaminants.
- Prepare repaired panels and surfaces for primer and paint application.
- Apply fillers, primers and other approved surface-preparation materials.
- Read and interpret vehicle paint codes and manufacturer colour specifications.
- Select and prepare appropriate automotive paint products and materials.
- Accurately mix automotive paints to achieve the required colour, shade, consistency and viscosity.
- Carry out colour matching and blending between repaired areas and existing vehicle paintwork.
- Prepare and mask windows, lights, trim, fittings and other areas that must not be painted.
- Use professional spray-painting equipment to apply automotive paint systems.
- Adjust spray-gun pressure, nozzle settings and application techniques according to the paint system and surface.
- Apply primers, base coats, metallic and pearl finishes and clear coats as required.
- Carry out blending and refinishing techniques to achieve a seamless finish.
- Inspect completed paintwork for defects, including colour mismatch, runs, sags, uneven coverage, orange peel and dust contamination.
- Correct paint defects by sanding, polishing, refinishing or repainting where required.
- Remove masking materials and refit vehicle components, trim and external fittings.
- Polish and finish completed vehicle panels to the required quality standard.
- Maintain and clean spray guns, tools and painting equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe working environment.
- Handle paints, solvents, thinners and other materials safely and in accordance with workplace and environmental requirements.
- Use appropriate PPE and comply with all health and safety procedures.
- Work closely with Vehicle Body Repair Technicians, Panel Beaters and other members of the bodyshop team.
- Complete work within agreed production schedules and maintain the required quality standards.
- Record work completed and materials used where required.
- Carry out other duties reasonably associated with the position of Vehicle Paint Technician.
Essential Requirements
- Recognised qualification in Automotive Refinishing, Vehicle Painting, Vehicle Body Repair or a related automotive trade, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Minimum 2 years' relevant professional experience as a Vehicle Paint Technician / Automotive Paint Technician is required.
- Demonstrable experience in automotive surface preparation and paint application.
- Proven experience in automotive paint mixing and colour matching.
- Experience using professional automotive spray-painting equipment.
- Knowledge of primers, base coats, clear coats and automotive refinishing systems.
- Knowledge of vehicle paint preparation, blending and finishing techniques.
- Ability to identify and correct paint defects.
- Ability to work safely with automotive paints, solvents, thinners and related materials.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Good attention to detail and ability to consistently produce a high-quality finish.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work to production schedules and agreed deadlines.
Qualifications and Experience Candidates should hold a relevant recognised qualification in automotive refinishing, vehicle painting, vehicle body repair or a related trade.Equivalent relevant professional experience may be considered where appropriate. A minimum of 2 years' professional experience in vehicle painting / automotive refinishing is required.
