About the role.
We're looking for an experienced News Reporter to join our Dublin-based news team covering the island of Ireland.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious journalist who thrives on breaking news, enjoys finding exclusive stories and can deliver fast, accurate and engaging copy under pressure. You'll cover a wide range of stories across the Republic of Ireland and, when required, Northern Ireland, working closely with colleagues across news, pictures and video to deliver the highest quality journalism.
Although this is a remote role, you'll need to be based in or within easy travelling distance of Dublin to respond quickly to breaking news and attend assignments across the island of Ireland. Regular travel throughout the island of Ireland will be required.
What you'll be trusted with

Breaking and developing news stories from across the island of Ireland

Producing fast, fair and accurate copy for PA's wire and digital services

Generating original stories and agenda-setting exclusives

Covering major news events, including courts, politics and breaking news

Supplementing stories with quality video and picture content where appropriate

Monitoring social media and other sources to identify and verify emerging stories

Working closely with editorial colleagues in Dublin, Belfast, London and across the wider PA editorial division

Building and maintaining strong relationships with contacts to develop exclusive content

Engaging with customers and representing PA on broadcast media when required
What you'll need to be considered

A recognised journalism qualification
-
Strong reporting experience with a news agency, national or regional newspaper, or broadcast news organisation

Excellent news judgement and the ability to recognise and develop stories quickly

A proven ability to produce accurate, engaging copy under tight deadlines

Experience covering breaking news and court reporting

A sound understanding of media law

Fast and accurate shorthand

A full, clean driving licence and access to a vehicle
-
Flexibility to travel across the island of Ireland and work evenings and weekends when required
