Role Title : Head of AI & Data
Location : Dublin
Vhi Group Services DAC have a full time permanent role for the Head of AI & Data. The successful candidate will lead Vhi’s strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence across its health insurance and health services operations, ensuring AI is leveraged ethically, effectively, and innovatively to enhance customer value, operational efficiency, clinical outcomes, and data-driven decision-making.

What will you do:
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute a comprehensive AI strategy and roadmap aligned with Vhi’s corporate goals and customer value proposition.
- Identify, assess feasibility, ROI and risks of high-impact AI initiatives across insurance, clinics, wellbeing, customer experience, and operations to embed AI into workflows and services
- Define and implement the most suitable COE operating model (e.g., embedded, standalone, or hub-and-spoke), ensuring agility, scalability, and cross-functional collaboration. Establish governance mechanisms including executive sponsorship, steering committees, and domain-specific pods to manage risk, funding, and strategic direction.
- Lead organizational transformation by embedding AI into ways of working, aligning incentives and behaviors, and fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous learning. Drive change management programs to support adoption and capability uplift across all levels.
AI Governance & Ethics
- Establish, lead and oversee AI governance frameworks, policies and standards to ensure adherence to Irish and EU regulations, ethical, privacy, security and fairness principles .
- Oversee ethical AI deployment, including bias mitigation, model transparency, and data privacy.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, risk, data protection teams to ensure safe and fair AI practices.
Innovation & Implementation
- Lead cross-functional teams in the design, development, and deployment, monitoring of AI solutions (e.g., predictive analytics, automation, conversational AI, clinical decision support, etc.) and define and track success metrics to measure the impact of AI initiatives on business outcomes, employee experience and innovation.
- Stay abreast of emerging AI trends in health insurance or healthcare and manage pilot projects, proof-of-concepts, scaling up
- Build collaborations with academic institutions, technology companies, and research consortia.
- Evaluate emerging AI technologies and vendors for strategic fit and value creation
Technology, Data & Infrastructure:
- Establish scalable AI computing infrastructure and data pipelines for multi-terabyte insurance or health datasets. Lead integration of AI into business systems
- Ensure data readiness: data quality, integration, pipelines and ingestion and storage infrastructure
- Oversee feature engineering, data governance, data security
Talent & Capability Building
- Build, lead and mentor a multidisciplinary AI team (data scientists, ML engineers, AI ethicists, etc.). Develop a strategic talent roadmap for AI, including role definitions, skill requirements, learning pathways, and performance metrics. Partner with P&S to implement enterprise-wide AI literacy and targeted upskilling programs
- Represent Vhi in national or international AI forums and partnerships
What you will need to be successful:
- Senior leader with relevant experience in AI, and experience in AI strategy and implementation ideally within healthcare, insurance, or regulated industries.
- Expertise in and strong understanding of machine learning, data science, and AI governance.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a global perspective
- Experience navigating regulatory environments.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and proven record of culture transformation experience
- Ability to operationalize AI models to support preventive care, personalized health interventions, and service optimization across Vhi’s ecosystem (e.g. Claims Fraud Detection Model, Pricing Model, Customer Churn Prediction Model, Disease Prediction & Early Intervention Model, Personalized Health Recommendation Model, etc.)
