The Baler Engineer is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and safe operation of industrial baling equipment. The role ensures maximum equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and delivering preventative maintenance. The engineer will troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and control system faults while ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and test industrial balers and associated conveying equipment.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) according to maintenance schedules.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical faults.
- Perform emergency breakdown repairs to minimize production downtime.
- Inspect balers for wear, damage, and operational efficiency.
- Replace or refurbish worn components including cylinders, bearings, chains, belts, rams, and hydraulic systems.
- Troubleshoot PLC-controlled systems and electrical control panels where applicable.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to increase reliability and throughput.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and spare parts usage.
- Coordinate with production teams to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption.
- Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety regulations, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
- Assist with equipment upgrades & modifications.
- Train operators on correct equipment operation and routine inspections.
Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience maintaining industrial balers or heavy industrial equipment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, pumps, valves, cylinders, and power units.
- Experience with industrial electrical systems and motor controls.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical drawings.
- Full driving licence
