Vhi Health & Wellbeing DAC currently has a full time, permanent role in our Urgent Care Clinic Carrickmines for the position of Clinical Nurse Manager 1.
The Clinical Nurse Manager 1 for Urgent Care will provide clinical and operational leadership within a VHI Urgent Care Centre, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, timely and patient-centred care. The post-holder will support the smooth running of the Urgent Care service on a day-to-day basis, coordinating clinical activity, supporting staff, and maintaining high standards of care in a fast-paced ambulatory environment.
This role has a strong clinical focus combined with responsibility for staff support, patient flow, quality, and service development aligned with VHI values and integrated care pathways.

What you will do:
Clinical / Professional Practice:-
Coordinate and oversee the assessment, treatment, and discharge of patients presenting to Urgent Care in line with VHI clinical pathways, policies, and national guidelines.

Provide safe, high-quality nursing care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Code of Professional Conduct.

Support rapid assessment, escalation, and decision-making to ensure effective patient flow and a positive patient experience.

Act as a visible clinical leader, supporting and guiding nursing and multidisciplinary staff in the delivery of urgent care services.

Promote evidence-based practice and continuous improvement in clinical care.

Work collaboratively with Advanced Nurse Practitioners, doctors, HCAs, administrative staff, and allied health professionals.

Ensure accurate, timely and complete clinical documentation using VHI-approved electronic systems.

Support safe discharge planning, including patient education, health promotion, and onward referral where required.

Uphold patient dignity, privacy, confidentiality, and informed decision-making at all times.
Leadership and Service Delivery-
Provide day-to-day leadership of staff within the Urgent Care Centre, supporting effective skill mix and allocation of resources.

Monitors the whole clinical environment during periods of increased demand to ensure appropriate patient flow, staff allocation, and safety standards are maintained.

Assist with rostering, escalation planning, and coordination of workloads in response to service demand.

Support the induction, orientation, supervision, and ongoing development of nursing and support staff.

Act as a role model for professional behaviour, teamwork, and patient-centred care.

Contribute to service development initiatives, quality improvement projects, and the implementation of best practice within VHI Urgent Care.

Support the CNM 2 with any day-to-day performance challenges, communicate and escalate any matters of concern.
Quality, Safety, and Risk Management-
Act as a clinical leader and role model, supporting best evidence-based practice and patient-centred care.

Promote and lead continuous quality improvement through audits, nursing metrics, and compliance with recognised quality standards.

Promote, lead, and comply with, the principles of clinical governance including quality, risk and health and safety and be individually responsible for clinical governance, risk management, health and safety issues in their area of work.

Comply with your role and responsibilities set out in the Incident Management policy
- Comply with your role and responsibilities set out in the Complaint Management Policy.

Co-operate with quality reviews and investigations and assist with the implementation of any necessary corrective actions, recommendations and preventative measures.

Identify, manage, and escalate clinical and operational risks appropriately.

Ensure incidents, near misses, and complaints are reported and managed in line with VHI policy.

Have a working knowledge of the Joint Commission Standards and the role required to implement the standards in particular International Patient Safety Goals and Patient Safety Standards including Medication Management and Use.
Education and Professional Development-
Maintain professional competence and engage in continuing professional development relevant to urgent and ambulatory care.

Support education, coaching, and skill development of nursing staff and students as appropriate.

Participate in performance review and personal development planning.

Support the CNM 2 with the yearly performance and competency reviews.

Administrative and Operational Responsibilities
-
Support the Nurse Manager in monitoring activity, patient volumes, KPIs, and service performance.
-
Assist in maintaining appropriate clinical equipment, supplies, and stock control.
-
Use IT and digital systems effectively to support patient care and service delivery.
-
Participate in meetings, service planning, and operational reviews as required.

Act up for the Nurse Manager when appropriate
