Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Worker (DSW) to join our residential community services for adults in Galway.
The successful candidates will support adults with complex needs, including intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism and acquired brain injuries. The role involves providing person-centred care and practical support in a safe, respectful and empowering residential environment.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidates will be required to:
- Support residents with daily living needs in accordance with their assessed needs and care plans;
- Assist residents with personal care, intimate care, meals, daily routines and community participation;
- Support residents to maintain dignity, privacy, independence and personal choice;
- Assist with the implementation of person-centred plans, care plans, risk assessments and communication supports;
- Act as a consistent point of contact for service users;
- Support individuals to navigate services and attend appointments where required;
- Contribute to care planning, case reviews, residents’ meetings and multidisciplinary meetings;
- Build positive and professional relationships with service users, families, carers, colleagues, multidisciplinary teams and external agencies;
- Advocate for service users and support them in expressing their wishes and preferences;
- Report any changes, concerns or risks affecting a resident’s wellbeing to the appropriate manager or Person in Charge;
- Maintain accurate records in line with organisational policies, HIQA standards and legislative requirements;
- Follow all health and safety, safeguarding, infection prevention, medication management and confidentiality procedures;
- Provide emotional and practical support across all aspects of daily life.

Qualifications and Experience Required:
Candidates must have:
- QQI/FETAC Level 5 qualification in Healthcare Support, Social Care or a related field, or an equivalent or higher qualification;
- Previous experience in healthcare, disability services, residential care or social care is desirable;
- Full driving licence is desirable but not essential.
The successful candidates will be required to complete Garda vetting and any required pre-employment checks before commencement.
