About the farm:
We operate a large spring calving dairy farm. We are a grass based enterprise focusing on herd heath, grassland management and herd genetics. The farm has recently upgraded its milking parlour facilities and animal accommodation. We complete the majority of machinery work ourselves - slurry application, silage cutting and fertiliser spreading. We are looking for a reliable, self-motivated, and enthusiastic Dairy Farm Assistant to join our team.
The successful candidate will become an important part of the day-to-day farm team and will be involved in all aspects of dairy farming and livestock care.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with morning and evening milking
- Preparing cows and maintaining high standards of milking hygiene
- Feeding cows, calves and young stock
- Monitoring animals for signs of illness, injury or unusual behaviour
- Calf rearing, including feeding, bedding and general care
- Assisting with calving and caring for newborn calves
- Cleaning and maintaining milking parlours, sheds and feeding areas
- Moving and handling cattle safely
- Checking water supplies, feed and bedding
- Cleaning and maintaining farm equipment
- Carrying out general farm maintenance
- Fencing, paddock maintenance and grassland work
- Assisting with machinery and tractor work where appropriate
- Maintaining clean and safe working areas
- Recording livestock information and completing routine farm tasks
- Following farm health and safety procedures
- Following animal-welfare and biosecurity standards
- Carrying out other general duties required for the efficient running of the farm

Experience
Previous experience on a dairy farm is essential including milking cows and general animal husbandry.
Training and guidance will be provided where required.
Working Hours
This is a full-time position and will involve morning and evening farm work, including weekends and some public holidays as part of the normal farm rota.
Typical duties may involve early morning starts, evening milking and additional work during busy periods such as calving.
A flexible attitude towards working hours is therefore essential.
