Job Title: General Assistant – Asylum Seeker Accommodation Centre

Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable, hardworking and compassionate General Assistant to join our team at an Asylum Seeker Accommodation Centre in Tralee, County Kerry. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring residents receive a clean, safe and welcoming living environment while assisting with the daily operation of the centre.
This role requires a positive attitude, excellent teamwork, respect for people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, serve and distribute meals to residents in accordance with food hygiene and safety standards.
- Assist with food preparation and kitchen duties as required.
- Wash dishes, utensils and kitchen equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene throughout dining areas, kitchens and communal spaces.
- Carry out routine cleaning duties including mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting and sanitising surfaces.
- Clean and maintain toilets, bathrooms and shower facilities.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste safely and responsibly.
- Restock cleaning supplies, food items and other essential materials.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is used safely and stored correctly.
- Report maintenance issues, health and safety concerns or damaged equipment promptly.
- Assist with laundry duties where required.
- Help prepare rooms for new arrivals when necessary.
- Follow all health and safety regulations, infection prevention procedures and company policies.
- Treat all residents with dignity, respect and professionalism regardless of nationality, ethnicity, religion or background.
- Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by management.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in cleaning, catering, hospitality or a similar role is desirable but not essential.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual and flexible with working hours.
- Physically capable of carrying out manual cleaning and catering duties.
- Good understanding of hygiene and cleanliness standards.
- Respectful, professional and culturally sensitive in dealing with residents and colleagues.
Desirable Qualifications but not essential
- Manual Handling Certificate.
- Food Safety/HACCP Certification.
- Infection Prevention and Control training.
- Previous experience working in residential, healthcare, hospitality or community settings.
