Job Title: Sorting Depot Assistant

Our Charity Fashion & Furniture Home-Store operates under the trading name of Clare Haven Horizons in Ennis, Co. Clare. The proceeds from our stores supports the frontline domestic abuse services of Clare Haven Services and the development of education and prevention programmes aimed at ending relationship abuse.
Job Purpose
Overview:
The sorting depot assistant plays a crucial role in assisting with the sorting operations at our charity shop's sorting depot.
What we need: -
The applicant will help to with the efficient and effective processing of donated goods, ensuring that items are sorted, assessed, and prepared for sale or distribution. This position is essential in supporting our mission to provide quality products to the community while maximizing the impact of donations received.
Overview of Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Operations:
- Assist in the day-to-day sorting depot operations, ensuring all activities run smoothly and efficiently.
- Develop and implement as per sorting protocols and guidelines to ensure a consistent and high-quality processing of donations.
- Quality Control:
- Assess and evaluate donated items for quality and suitability for sale, determining whether items should be sold, recycled, or discarded.
- Maintain high standards for cleanliness, organisation, and safety within the sorting centre.
- Inventory Management:
- Track and manage inventory levels, both incoming donations and sorted items ready for sale.
- Collaborate with the retail team and management to facilitate the timely transfer of sorted goods to the shop floors.
- Trend & Brand Identification:
- Spot high-street, designer, and vintage brands, as well as seasonal trends, to help categorise and value donations effectively.
- Waste Reduction:
- Identify items that are not fit for sale but are suitable for recycling, ensuring we minimise waste.
Essential Criteria:
- Previous experience in a retail, warehouse, or non-profit environment preferred but not essential.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Interpersonal and communication skills required. A friendly, collaborative attitude with a genuine passion for supporting our charity's mission.
- Passion for the mission of the charity and commitment to service in the community.
Desirable Criteria:
- Strong Brand Awareness: Familiarity with popular high-street, designer, or vintage brands.
Note:
- The participant will receive formal/informal training and mentoring.
- This is an active, hands-on role that requires standing, bending, lifting boxes, and handling large bags of textile donations.
- Flexible scheduling may be required.
