We are currently recruiting a Site Safety Specialist to support the Capital Projects EHS Team on a biopharma client site in Cork. The Site Safety Specialist is a highly visible, field-based (“boots on the ground”) EHS professional responsible for day-to-day safety oversight of capital project construction and installation activities within an active biopharma manufacturing environment.
This role ensures that contractors, project teams, and site personnel execute work safely, in full compliance with regulatory requirements, company standards, and industry best practices, while maintaining operational continuity in a high-risk, GMP-regulated setting.

- Maintain a constant on-site presence to proactively identify, assess, and mitigate hazards associated with construction, installation, and commissioning activities

Serve as the primary EHS point of contact for contractors and project teams on assigned projects

Conduct daily site walks, inspections, and safety observations across multiple active work fronts

Intervene immediately to stop unsafe work and ensure corrective actions are implemented

Ensure contractors adhere to:

Site EHS rules
-
Permit-to-work systems
-
Method statements and risk assessments
-
Industry and regulatory standards (e.g., OSHA/EU directives, local legislation)

Participate in and audit pre-task risk assessments (JHAs/RA/MS)

Lead or support contractor onboarding, inductions, and toolbox talks

Monitor high-risk activities such as:

Work at height
-
Confined space entry
-
Hot work
-
LOTO (Lockout/Tagout)
-
Lifting operations
-
Electrical work
-
Lead or support incident investigations, near-miss reporting, and root cause analysis
-
Track and trend safety observations and incidents to identify systemic risks

Serve as a visible safety leader and role model on site

Promote a culture of:

Continuous improvement
:
- Degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, or related discipline
-
Relevant professional certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH) preferred

2-5+ years’ experience in a construction/project EHS role, ideally within:

Biopharmaceutical or life sciences
-
Pharmaceutical manufacturing
-
Regulated industrial environments
-
Proven experience working in live operating sites with concurrent construction activities

Strong knowledge of high-risk construction activities and control measures
-
Strong field presence and influencing skills – confident engaging with all levels onsite

Practical, solution-oriented approach to risk management

Excellent observation, inspection, and reporting capabilities

Ability to challenge safely and constructively
