Gurteen College is seeking an experienced Dairy Farm Assistant to join our farm team in Ballingarry, Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.
The successful candidate will assist with the day-to-day running of the dairy farm, including milking, calf rearing, feeding, machinery operation, animal care and general farm maintenance. The role will also involve working alongside students and assisting with the smooth running of the farm.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Carrying out daily milking duties
- Calf rearing and care
- Feeding livestock
- Operating agricultural machinery and equipment
- General farm and yard maintenance
- Fencing and general farm maintenance
- Cleaning and maintaining the milking parlour
- Cleaning and maintaining farm sheds and machinery
- Monitoring and maintaining high standards of animal health and welfare
- Assisting farm management with the smooth running of the farm
- Working alongside and engaging with students during farm activities
- Assisting with college open days and events from time to time
- Carrying out general dairy farm duties as required
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience working on a dairy farm
- Practical experience handling dairy cattle and carrying out milking duties
- Good understanding of animal health and welfare
- Experience operating agricultural machinery
- Ability to carry out general farm and yard maintenance
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable and responsible approach to work
- An agricultural qualification is preferred but not essential
- A driving licence is preferred but not essential
Hours of Work
39 hours per week
Pay: €36,605.00 per year
