Lough Rea Hotel & Spa is seeking an experienced, hands-on and highly organised Maintenance Manager to take responsibility for the ongoing maintenance, safety and presentation of our hotel and its facilities.
This is a key role within the hotel, ensuring that our buildings, plant, equipment and grounds are maintained to a consistently high standard and that any issues affecting our guests, colleagues or operation are dealt with promptly and professionally.
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, is proactive rather than reactive, and can confidently manage priorities in a busy hotel environment.
About Lough Rea Hotel & Spa
Located overlooking the beautiful Loughrea Lake, Lough Rea Hotel & Spa is one of Galway’s best-known hospitality venues. The hotel comprises 91 bedrooms, Shore Island Spa, Lir Bar & Brasserie, Abbey Restaurant, the Rooftop Garden Bar & Sky Lounge, extensive car parking and a large conference operation, including six breakout rooms and capacity for conferences of up to 500 people.

The Role
As Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the hotel’s physical environment, equipment and infrastructure are safe, operational and maintained to a high standard.
You will work closely with the General Manager and other department heads, responding to operational requirements while also taking a proactive approach to preventative maintenance and identifying potential issues before they impact the guest experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day maintenance requirements of the hotel.
- Respond promptly and professionally to guest and departmental maintenance requests.
- Inspect, troubleshoot and repair plumbing, electrical, air-conditioning, refrigeration, boiler and general hotel equipment.
- Oversee maintenance and repairs within guest bedrooms and public areas, including plumbing, lighting, hardware, TV systems and general cosmetic issues.
- Ensure the hotel’s buildings, plant, equipment and grounds are maintained safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
- Monitor fire alarms and life-safety systems and respond appropriately to emergencies.
- Carry out regular inspections and identify maintenance issues before they become operational problems.
- Prioritise maintenance requests according to urgency, guest impact, safety and operational requirements.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and ensure completed works are documented.
- Manage maintenance tools, equipment, parts and inventory, ensuring appropriate supplies are available when required.
- Liaise with external contractors and service providers where specialist maintenance or repairs are required.
- Ensure all maintenance activity is carried out in accordance with appropriate health and safety standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe maintenance environment.
- Protect guest confidentiality, control access to guest areas and safeguard hotel property.
- Provide support and leadership to colleagues involved in maintenance activities.
- Work closely with hotel management and operational departments to minimise disruption to guests and the business.
- Carry out other reasonable maintenance and operational duties as required by management.
What We Are Looking For
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Proven experience in a maintenance, facilities or engineering role, preferably within a hotel or similar hospitality environment.
- Strong practical knowledge across electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating/boiler systems and general building maintenance.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of health & safety requirements.
- A proactive approach to preventative maintenance and problem solving.
- The ability to assess situations quickly, make sound decisions and prioritise effectively.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- The ability to work independently while also being an effective team leader.
- A calm, professional and approachable manner.
- High standards of workmanship and pride in maintaining the hotel to an excellent standard.
- Flexibility and the ability to respond effectively in a busy hospitality environment.
- A full driving licence and own transport.
Experience or qualifications in electrical, plumbing or carpentry would be a distinct advantage.
