Duties and responsibilities
The role of the Transport Planner is to meet and exceed customers’ requirements for the safe and efficient transport of their cargo, effectively and in accordance with company quality procedures and statutory requirements. You will maintain total operational control to ensure SLA / SOP's are adhered to.
Resource Allocation Route Planning
Ensure accurate allocation of fleet resources to scheduled deliveries and collections.
Analyse historical data, delivery schedules, vehicle capacity, and geographic factors to develop efficient route plans.
Monitor driver availability to maximise fleet utilisation and maintain service continuity.
Use TMS data and other analytical tools to evaluate transportation performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Optimise routes for time and fuel efficiency, including the use of cluster‑based delivery planning.
Assign loads to vehicles based on capacity, operational requirements, and customer priorities.
Drive cost‑effective decision‑making across all transport activities.
Utilise route optimisation software to ensure best CPP is achieved.
Relationship Communication Management
Maintain clear, timely communication with customers, ensuring all queries are resolved or directed to the appropriate department.
Liaise closely with drivers, warehouse teams, logistics, and freight departments to ensure smooth information flow throughout the business.
Coordinate special or urgent deliveries when required, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
Address and resolve collection and delivery issues promptly and professionally.
General Administration Compliance
Check in drivers at transport reception for both deliveries and collections.
Prepare, manage, and store all transport documentation to the highest standard.
Maintain accurate and timely records within the TMS (Azyra).
Support the department with additional administrative duties as needed.
KPI reporting – making sure all information is 100% accurate
Manage supplier PO’s to ensure costs are allocated to the correct jobs.
Ensure all PDA’s are accurately recorded on the system.
Experience and Skillset
Substantial experience transport planning for 3+ years.
Experience in the logistics industry, including white glove services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent IT skills, including Office 365 and Microsoft Office.
Experience using tracking systems.
Professional and focussed approach with a high level to attention and detail.
Attention to analytics and conformance with defined procedures around tight timelines.
Customer focussed with desire for strive for excellence.
Positive ‘can do’ attitude and highly ambitious approach.
Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
Increased level of flexibility to meet timelines on reporting.
Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
