Role:
The Petrochem Group is a major distributor of stainless-steel products that include pipes, fittings & valves to the Pharma, Food & Beverage, Data Centre and WWTP industries across Ireland, UK & Europe, with Branch’s in Cork, Dunboyne & United Kingdom.
Materials are imported from international sources to include Great Britain, Europe, Asia & North America.
With increasing levels of EU regulations & legislation being implemented such as Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, Increased Quota Safeguard measures, evolving USA & International Tariffs the business is looking to create the position of CUSTOMS & COMMODITIES AGENT with responsibility for compliance & adherence to all Irish & EU regulations & legislation along with ensuring correct calculation of applicable tariffs and duties to assist with cost competitiveness.
This role is ideal for an existing customs agent with experience in calculation of international tariffs along with completion of all required Import documentation, necessary support documentation and schedules.
Job Responsibilities:
Reporting to senior management the successful candidate will have responsibility for all relevant regulatory & legislative amendments to include continuous appraisal of relevant EU tariff & duty amendments, EU quota safeguarding measures and updating on potential CBAL liabilities.
CUSTOMS DECLARATIONS:
Verification of SAD documents created by third party customs clearing agents to ensure accuracy and compliance with current Irish & EU legislation and regulations.
CLASSIFICATION & VALUATION:
Ensuring correct commodity codes, duties and carbon taxes are calculated & implemented at import AND receipting stage.
Ensuring ERP system commodity codes + weights for all our active products are kept accurate and reviewed periodically to support correct classifications & valuations.
Advise sales teams with queries on correct duty & tariff costs.
CARBON BORDER ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM:
Ensuring correct CBAM calculation rates are being applied to all import orders that CBAM is applicable to.
Verification and updating of all source information contained within our ERP system to ensure accurate CBAM compliance and cost calculations are correctly applied.
Assist sales teams with queries re potential CBAM costs
DOCUMENT PREPERATION:
Gathering & verifying necessary paperwork (CI/ COO/ PL) and maintaining same on our ERP system for cross departmental need & uses.
DUTY & TAX PAYMENTS:
Facilitating payments of same included monitoring of any TAN accounts or specialized deferment accounts.
RECORD KEEPING & MAINTAINANCE
Update & review product intrastat & CBAM information.
Maintain correct duty & tariff records including reconciliation of supplier commodity codes to EU & Irish commodity codes noting reasons for variation.
Ensure commodity ode information is accurate & reconciled between our UK & Irish Branch’s
Archiving and maintenance of legislative records in event of customs audit.
Requirements:
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in written & verbal English
- Proven 2-3 years’ experience in customs clearance in Ireland.
- A clear and confident understanding of the Irish revenue guidelines in the context of customs clearance.
- Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities with high attention to detail, especially in payment of VAT or duties.
- Knowledge of bonded warehouse operations and required documentation and procedures.
- Confident communicator with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Competency in using ERP systems and MS office applications (excel, word, outlook).
- Ability to work independently, show initiative, and drive process improvements.
- Flexibility to manage tasks at both operational and administrative levels.

- Incoterms & tariff classifications
- Eur1 movement certificates
- Origin rules
- Certificates of origin, invoice declarations and approved supplier
- REX – registered exporter system requirements
- Customs invoices
- Knowledge of VAT regulations and legislation, specifically postponed VAT
- Customs warehousing
- Inward processing
- Duty payment methods
- Anti-dumping, safeguard duties and quota regulations
