Duration:
Temporary externally funded non Grant-in-Aid contract post, the indicative duration of which is 12 months, subject to contract. A panel may be formed from which future similar vacancies may be filled; such a panel will remain active for a maximum period of 12 months.
Basic Function:
To contribute to the delivery of a research programme investigating the application of digital imaging technologies in livestock research. The role involves the operation and development of imaging methodologies, management of image datasets, technical problem solving and supporting the delivery of high-quality scientific outputs.
Background:
This position is based within the Livestock Systems Research Department at the Teagasc Animal & Grassland Research and Innovation Centre, Moorepark, an internationally recognised centre for dairy research. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research team working to develop innovative digital imaging technologies for livestock research. The project combines expertise in animal science, engineering and digital technologies to develop objective measurement methods that support future livestock research. The role offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative research environment with access to modern dairy research facilities, specialist imaging equipment and computing resources.
- A Level 8 degree (as recognised on the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent), in scientific, engineering or agricultural discipline or a related discipline.
- A postgraduate degree and/or research experience in Agricultural Science, Engineering, Biological Sciences or a related discipline would be a distinct advantage
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good data handling and computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate research records.
- Aptitude for multidisciplinary approaches.
- Experience using digital imaging equipment or scientific instrumentation would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of scientific research methods and good laboratory or field research practices.
- Knowledge of data collection, data management and record keeping.
- Knowledge of computer applications for data handling and documentation.
- An understanding of quality assurance and the importance of accurate data recording
- An understanding of imaging technologies and scientific instrumentation would be an advantage.
- Proven record of scientific communications
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including collaborating and building positive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
- Demonstrates good problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.
- Demonstrates a positive, flexible and proactive approach to new challenges and responsibilities.

As this role will involve driving vehicles, candidates must satisfy and continue to satisfy during employment with Teagasc, legal requirements to drive a car unaccompanied on Irish public roads
Eligibility
This is an open public competition. Should a current serving Teagasc staff member be successful in their application through open public competition for this post, their current contract of employment with Teagasc will come to an end on taking up this post.
