About the Opportunity
A market-leading contractor is seeking an experienced
Lead Electrical Engineer to join its Cork-based project team, initially supporting the successful delivery of a
€35M Life Sciences facility.
This is a key leadership position responsible for managing all electrical engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring the successful coordination, installation, testing, commissioning, and handover of complex electrical systems within a highly regulated GMP environment.
Working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, Design Consultants, BIM Teams, Commercial Team, QA/QC, Commissioning Engineers, and Client Representatives, you will provide technical leadership while ensuring the project is delivered safely, on programme, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
The Role - Lead Electrical Engineer
As Lead Electrical Engineer, you will take ownership of the electrical engineering function across the project, leading multidisciplinary teams while driving technical excellence, programme certainty, and quality throughout the delivery of this major Life Sciences development.
Key Responsibilities of the Lead Electrical Engineer
- Lead the delivery of all electrical engineering packages, including MV/LV distribution, transformers, switchgear, UPS systems, generators, lighting, small power, fire alarm, containment, earthing, lightning protection, BMS interfaces, and life safety systems, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant project execution.
- Manage the full electrical project lifecycle, including design coordination, technical reviews, procurement support, technical submittals, value engineering, construction management, installation oversight, QA/QC, testing, commissioning, energisation, and client handover, while ensuring compliance with GMP standards, project specifications, and statutory regulations.
- Coordinate closely with Mechanical, CSA, BIM, Commercial, Commissioning, and Construction teams to resolve technical challenges, manage interfaces, support programme delivery, mitigate project risks, and ensure successful integration of all electrical systems.
- Monitor engineering progress, programme milestones, resource requirements, quality performance, and commercial impacts, providing regular reporting to senior project leadership while driving continuous improvement and engineering best practice.
- Lead, mentor, and develop Site Engineers and Graduate Engineers, promoting a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, safety leadership, and high-performance project delivery.
Necessary Requirements of the Lead Electrical Engineer
- Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related discipline, with 7+ years' experience in a Lead Electrical Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer, Electrical Project Engineer, or Building Services Engineering role within Pharmaceutical, Life Sciences, Industrial, Semiconductor, Data Centre, or Mission-Critical Construction environments.
- Proven experience delivering complex electrical systems including MV/LV infrastructure, power distribution, UPS systems, generators, lighting, BMS integration, containment, testing, commissioning, and technical coordination, ideally on large-scale pharmaceutical or regulated manufacturing projects.
- Strong knowledge of design coordination, procurement, technical submittals, value engineering, QA/QC, commissioning, BIM coordination, project planning, risk management, and electrical construction, with experience working alongside clients, consultants, specialist subcontractors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Excellent leadership, communication, planning, and stakeholder management skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
