Manufacturing Technician - Centreless Grinding
About the Role
SCS Ltd is seeking a skilled or aspiring Centreless Grinder Technician to support our precision manufacturing operations. The role involves setting up, operating, and maintaining both manual and CNC centreless grinding equipment.
This role is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude and a hands-on approach. Experience in centreless grinding is desirable but not essential — full training will be provided to candidates who demonstrate technical ability, motivation, and a willingness to learn.
While the primary focus of this role is centreless grinding, there is an expectation of flexibility. The role may involve supporting other production or engineering activities as required to meet business needs. SCS values adaptable team members who contribute to overall operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and adjust manual and CNC centreless grinding machines
- Select and dress grinding wheels as required
- Perform first-off and in-process inspections to ensure dimensional accuracy and parts meet specification
- Interpret engineering drawings and work to tight tolerances
- Identify and correct grinding issues
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and basic troubleshooting
- Support continuous improvement in grinding processes
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and health & safety compliance
- Support other manufacturing or engineering activities as required, in line with business needs
Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Strong hands-on mechanical or engineering background
- Technical mindset with problem-solving ability
- Ability to learn complex processes and machinery
- High attention to detail and quality
- Comfortable working with precision measuring equipment
- Ability to work independently and take ownership once trained
Desirable (but not essential):
- Experience in centreless grinding
- CNC machine setup and operation experience
- Experience with Royal Master or similar centreless grinding equipment
- Toolroom, machining, or manufacturing background
- Understanding of grinding wheels, dressing, and feeds/speeds
