Working hours:
- Full- Time, approx. 30 Hours per week
- Shift timings range from 7am - 6pm.

Reporting Relationship
The General Operative reports directly to the Support Service Manager.
Purpose of the Post
To support the day-to-day operation of Clearbrook Nursing Home by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and food service across the Housekeeping, Kitchen and Laundry Departments. The post holder will provide a flexible service and may be required to work in any of these departments to meet operational requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities
The General Operative will:
Housekeeping Duties
- Ensure residents' privacy, dignity and independence are respected at all times.
- Clean and service all areas of the nursing home, including:
- Resident bedrooms
- Bathrooms and WCs
- Corridors and hallways
- Living rooms
- Offices
- Clinical areas
- Floors, walls and internal windows.
- Clean spillages promptly in accordance with infection prevention and control procedures.
- Replenish consumables including soap, paper towels, toilet rolls and bin liners.
- Empty bins and dispose of waste safely in accordance with waste management procedures.
- Vacuum, damp dust and clean fixtures and fittings.
- Ensure all cleaning equipment is cleaned, maintained and stored correctly after use.
- Use cleaning chemicals safely and store them securely.
- Report defects, maintenance issues or hazards to the appropriate manager.
Laundry Duties
- Collect residents' clothing and linen from designated collection points.
- Load and unload washing machines and dryers correctly.
- Sort, wash, dry, fold and prepare clean laundry.
- Separate and correctly manage soiled or infected linen.
- Ensure residents' clothing is correctly identified and returned to the appropriate resident.
- Maintain the laundry area in a clean, safe and organised condition.
- Monitor laundry supplies and report shortages.
Kitchen Duties
- Assist the Chef with the daily operation of the kitchen.
- Assist in preparing and serving meals, snacks and beverages.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, hobs, steamers, boilers, toasters and food preparation equipment.
- Ensure residents have access to adequate food and fresh drinking water.
- Wash dishes, utensils and catering equipment.
- Clean kitchen work surfaces, storage areas and equipment to the required hygiene standards.
- Ensure dining rooms are presentable at all times.
- Responsible for washing of all delf within the home.
- Report equipment faults or maintenance issues.
- Assist with stock rotation and storage where required.
- Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and food safety.
General Responsibilities
- Comply with all Clearbrook Nursing Home policies and procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety legislation.
- Follow Infection Prevention and Control procedures.
- Comply with HACCP principles and food safety procedures.
- Follow Fire Safety procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Treat residents and their property with dignity and respect.
- Complete records and documentation as required.
- Wear the appropriate uniform and adhere to the dress code.
- Attend mandatory training.
- Work flexibly across housekeeping, kitchen and laundry services as required.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as directed by management.
