Airport Engineer – Shannon Airport (L1 with Development Opportunity)
Location: Shannon Airport, Ireland
Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent
Looking for an IT support role that’s more than “reset passwords and replace keyboards”?
At Shannon Airport, our IT environment covers far more than the average office — from baggage handling and car park systems to retail POS and CCTV. We’re seeking a hands-on Desktop Support Engineer who’s ready to handle the breadth of a fast-paced airport operation, while building new skills along the way.
You’ll join as a Level 1 engineer with a strong foundation in IT support (1–3 years’ experience) but an appetite to stretch into supporting a wide variety of airport systems under guidance. This isn’t a Level 2/3 role, but it’s ideal for someone who’s curious, adaptable, and wishes to develop to l2/l3
What you’ll do:
-
Provide deskside support for desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals — from installation to break/fix.
-
Act as on-site “Smart Hands” for network and server teams, following procedures to assist with hardware, cabling, and rack work.
-
Support Windows OS, standard desktop applications, and mobile devices (iOS/Android).
-
Perform user account management in Active Directory (password resets, account unlocks, group additions mapping network drives etc.).
-
Troubleshoot simple connectivity issues (LAN/WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi) using standard diagnostic tools.
-
Ability to work on mobile devices and configure same.
-
Work on scheduled deployments of software and OS images, following established processes.
-
Learn and assist with airport-specific systems such as:
- Car Park Management
-
Common use platform’s
-
Hold Baggage System
-
Baggage Identification & Weighing
-
CCTV & IP Telephony (Nice to have: IP PABX)
-
POS Retail Systems
-
Airport Lighting & Management Systems
- Nice to have: Database technologies (Microsoft SQL, Oracle) CISCO
What you bring:
-
1–3 years’ IT support experience (hardware/software troubleshooting).
-
CompTIA A+ or equivalent (or willingness to gain during employment).
-
Basic familiarity with TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and RDP.
-
Clear, confident communication skills (C1 English).
-
Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and follow security/compliance requirements.
-
Essential: Valid right to work in Ireland and 5 years’ continuous work/education history for airside clearance.
Security & Airside Requirements
-
Due to airport security and airside access requirements, all successful candidates must be capable of obtaining and maintaining an airport security pass.
-
Applicants must be able to provide a fully verifiable five-year employment, education and address history. Any significant unexplained gaps, or periods that cannot be satisfactorily evidenced through references or supporting documentation, may affect eligibility for airport security clearance and airside access approval.
Why this role?
This is a rare opportunity to keep the entry-level flexibility but gain exposure to specialist systems found only in airport environments — without the “must-have” senior engineer barrier to entry. We’ll support your development so you can adapt to the variety of technologies that keep the airport running.
Physical Requirements:
-
Able to lift or push 20-40 kilograms of equipment if needed.
-
Able to stand or kneel for extended periods of time.
