BDO Ireland’s Entrepreneurial Services division supports start-up and scale-up clients across a broad range of industries with tailored accounting, compliance and advisory support. The team works with ambitious founder-led businesses as they build strong financial foundations, improve reporting, prepare for fundraising and scale their operations.
This role is suited to a newly qualified accountant who is interested in more than the day-to-day running of finance. The successful candidate will be curious about how early-stage and growing companies operate, how they make commercial decisions, and how strong financial information supports strategy, fundraising and long-term growth.
-
Support the delivery of accounting services to start-up and scale-up clients, including bookkeeping oversight, month-end close, reconciliations and management reporting.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial information to help clients understand performance, cashflow, runway and key financial drivers.
- Assist with statutory compliance work, including VAT, payroll-related finance inputs, annual financial statements and corporation tax coordination where relevant.
- Support the preparation of board packs, investor reporting, KPI dashboards and other decision-ready outputs for founders and management teams.
- Work with clients to understand their business model, revenue streams, cost base, funding position and operational priorities.
- Research and assess finance tools and technologies that can streamline, automate and improve repetitive processes, including invoice processing, reconciliations, expense management, approval workflows, reporting and month-end close activities.
- Contribute to finance process improvement projects by identifying manual or duplicative tasks, documenting current workflows, and helping implement practical technology-enabled solutions.
- Liaise with wider BDO teams, including tax, company secretarial, transaction services and advisory specialists, to ensure clients receive joined-up support.
- Assist with onboarding new clients, gathering financial information, understanding systems and identifying immediate priorities or risks.
- Support senior team members on forecasting, budgeting, cashflow planning and fundraising readiness work.
- Build strong working relationships with founders, finance leads and client teams through clear communication and practical support.
-
Recently qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with a strong technical accounting foundation
- Experience in practice, industry, outsourced finance, audit or advisory, ideally with exposure to SMEs, start-ups or high-growth businesses
- Strong interest in understanding how businesses operate commercially, not just how financial information is prepared
- Comfortable working across multiple clients, deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong Excel and financial systems skills, with an interest in finance technology, automation and data-driven reporting
- Clear communicator, with the ability to translate financial information into practical, client-friendly insights
- Curious, proactive and willing to ask questions to understand the wider business context behind the numbers
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership over the quality and accuracy of deliverables
- Commercial mindset, with an interest in the start-up and scale-up ecosystem, including founder journeys, funding stages and the challenges of growing a business
- Awareness of the financial dynamics of growing businesses, including areas such as cashflow, runway, cost management, revenue models and performance metrics
- Interest in emerging tools and technologies that can reduce manual work, improve accuracy and strengthen finance processes
- Awareness of the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem in Ireland (e.g. Enterprise Ireland, accelerators, venture capital and advisory networks), or a willingness to develop this understanding over time
