The role of Starter/Ranger is a crucial customer-service and operations role, and focuses on maintaining the flow of play, enhancing the member/guest experience, and enforcing club etiquette and rules.
Job Title: Starter/Course Ranger
Responsible to: General Manager
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Liaise with Pro Shop to obtain timesheet & bookings for the day.
- Starting & Tee Time Management: Greeting members and guests, verifying tee times, organising groups on the 1st tee, and ensuring play starts on schedule to avoid initial bottlenecks.
- Player Service: Providing information on course conditions, and occasionally supporting tournament setup (e.g., closest-to-the-pin markers)
- Pace of Play Monitoring: Patrolling the course to identify slow groups and ensuring the 18-hole round is completed within the club’s allotted time (e.g., 4hrs 15mins). Assist with the management of any pace of play software introduced in the Club.
- Etiquette & Course Enforcement: Reminding players to repair pitch marks, replace divots, rake bunkers, and manage buggy traffic correctly.
- Safety Monitoring: Ensuring golfers are safe and adhere to safety rules regarding buggy usage and on-course conduct.
- Green Fees: Verifying that green fees have been paid.
- Completion of Course Ranger Review Sheet on a Daily Basis.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Knowledge of Golf: Strong understanding of the game, etiquette, and rules.
- Customer Service: Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Flexibility: Availability to work weekends and bank holidays.
- Physical Stamina: Ability to sit or drive a buggy for long periods and work outside in all weather conditions, including rain and wind.
- IT Skills: Basic IT skills for managing digital timesheets or communication devices.
- Experience: Previous experience in a similar role within the hospitality or golf industry is preferred.
- A current valid driving licence is required for this role
Common Working Conditions
· Seasonal Contract: Fixed Term Contract until the end of September
- Uniform: Uniform is provided and must be maintained to a professional standard.
- Part-time hours: Approx. 30 hours per week
