Workshop Operations Manager
North Dublin | Full-Time | Senior Position
We are an established structural and architectural steel company in North Dublin.
We have a good fabrication team and a well-equipped workshop. We are looking for an experienced, organised and highly capable Workshop Operations Manager to take control of the day-to-day running of production.
This is not primarily a fabrication role. We need someone who can manage people, plan work, control paperwork, monitor quality and give management clear visibility of what is happening in the workshop.
The Role
You will be responsible for running a workshop of approximately 20–30 people.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Planning the workshop workload and production programme
- Knowing what each team is working on and what is coming next
- Monitoring how long jobs are taking against planned hours
- Managing supervisors, fabricators and general workshop staff
- Preparing daily and weekly production plans
- Making sure drawings, materials and information are ready before work starts
- Checking that completed work has been inspected and signed off
- Maintaining quality records and EN 1090 documentation
- Carrying out regular quality checks
- Making sure fabrication follows approved drawings
- Tracking jobs through fabrication, finishing, packing and dispatch
- Identifying delays and problems before they affect delivery dates
- Using Excel and online management systems to track production
- Providing management with clear weekly reports on workload, labour and progress
- Improving workshop systems and procedures where required
What We Are Looking For
You should have:
- Minimum 10 years' relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, construction or production
- Previous experience managing people and production
- A degree or relevant third-level qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Manufacturing, Project Management or a similar discipline
- Excellent computer skills
- Strong Microsoft Excel ability
- Confidence using online project management and production systems
- Strong organisational and planning ability
- Ability to read engineering and fabrication drawings
- Good understanding of quality control and documentation
- Strong communication and people-management skills
- Ability to take ownership and make decisions
Steel fabrication experience would be a major advantage, but we are more interested in finding an excellent manager and organiser than simply an experienced fabricator.

Salary
Competitive senior-management salary, dependent on experience.
