Wexford County Council invites applicants for the following post:
Civil Technician Grade II
Closing Date: 2nd July 2026
A Civil Technician Grade II can be placed in several departments, including, but not limited to, Housing Construction, Planning, Roads, and Special Projects, under the direction of a Senior Engineer or analogous grade, or their representative.
The actual duties will depend on placement of the post, but in general they will include but are not limited to the following
- To draft detailed dimensional drawings, maps and layout drawings
- Carry out level, GPS, asset and general layout surveys
- Prepare reports, survey and record data and process information using computer systems
- Prepare and implement traffic management plans
- Read and review maps, technical drawings and structural specifications
- Use computer aided drafting or design software for design, drafting or other engineering tasks where required
- Perform day-to-day administrative tasks i.e. maintaining files, preparation of reports and related documentation
- Understand and be knowledgeable of regulations - including Health & Safety, traffic management and water quality
- Interact with members of the public, providing information and informing them of upcoming works
- Be responsible for the efficient use of resources including labour, plant and materials when supervising the above

Selection for all posts will be by means of interview and candidates may be shortlisted based on applications submitted. Panels may be formed from which future vacancies may be filled.
EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE ETC
Each candidate must, on the latest date for receipt of completed application forms:
a (i) Have passed the
N.C.E.A./H.E.T.A.C. National Certificate Final Examination/Higer Certificate (Level 6 on NFQ) in:
Civil Engineering
or
Geosurveying
or
Mechanical Engineering
or
Construction Studies
or
Architectural Technology/Graphics
OR
hold an equivalent qualification
OR
(ii) Have satisfactory service, immediately preceding the latest date for receipt of completed application forms, in a technician post at Grade II level, or in an analogous post under a Local Authority or Health Board in the State.
b Hold a
current clean full driving licence (minimum Class B) and have access to a car at all times for use in their work, details of which must be entered on the application form.
It is also desirable but
not essential that candidates:
- Hold a current Safe Pass Card
Successful candidates will be required to have a valid Safe Pass Card prior to taking up duty.
