We are looking for reliable, friendly and enthusiastic Canteen Assistants to join our catering team in a busy secondary school canteen in Tralee, Co. Kerry.
The successful candidates will work as part of a small team, assisting with food preparation, serving students and staff, till operation, cleaning, stock handling and maintaining excellent food hygiene and customer-service standards.
This is a hands-on role and would suit someone who is organised, hardworking and enjoys working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day-to-day operation of the school canteen.
- Assist with the preparation of hot and cold food.
- Prepare sandwiches, rolls, salads and other menu items as required.
- Assist with cooking, reheating and serving food where appropriate.
- Serve students and staff in a friendly, professional and efficient manner.
- Replenish food and service areas throughout the day.
- Operate the till/POS system and process cash and card payments.
- Follow all cash-handling and till procedures.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and personal hygiene standards.
- Follow HACCP and food safety procedures at all times.
- Follow allergen-management procedures and help prevent cross-contamination.
- Follow food storage and temperature-control procedures.
- Assist with receiving deliveries and putting stock away correctly.
- Rotate stock and check use-by dates.
- Keep preparation, service and storage areas clean and organised.
- Wash dishes, utensils and catering equipment as required.
- Complete cleaning duties throughout the day and at the end of service.
- Assist with waste management and maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
- Support the Canteen Manager and other team members during busy break and lunchtime periods.
- Provide excellent customer service to students and school staff.
- Follow all company and school policies and procedures.
- Report any food safety, stock, equipment or operational issues to the Canteen Manager.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in catering, hospitality, food service, retail or customer service is desirable but not essential.
- Food preparation or canteen experience is an advantage.
- Good communication and customer-service skills.
- Friendly, professional and approachable manner.
- Reliable and punctual.
- Good personal hygiene and attention to cleanliness.
- Ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and food safety procedures.
- Good attention to detail.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Comfortable working in a secondary-school environment.
- Ability to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
Training:
Food Safety, HACCP and allergen training will be required for the role, with training provided where necessary.
