Part-Time Visitor Experience & Events Assistant
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide a warm, friendly and professional welcome to worshippers, visitors, contractors and group leaders.
- Deliver engaging guided tours of the Cathedral, following the approved tour script and interpretation.
- Work at the Welcome Desk and Round Tower, including till operations, cash handling, balancing tills and assisting visitors entering and exiting the Cathedral and Tower.
- Work in the Gift Shop, including till operations, cash handling, balancing tills, merchandising, stock replenishment and other retail duties as directed by Management.
- Assist Cathedral Management in the delivery of services, concerts, workshops, gala dinners and other events held within the Cathedral.
- Support the set-up and clear-down of events, including arranging and storing chairs and ensuring the Cathedral is returned to its normal layout and presentation for tourism operations.
- Act as part of the duty team during evening events, assisting visitors, carrying out security and closing checks, and ensuring public areas, including toilets and grounds, are left clean, safe and secure.
- Assist with maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the Cathedral, Round Tower and grounds, reporting any maintenance or health and safety issues to Management.
- Support Cathedral tourism initiatives and projects as required in conjunction with Management.
- Undertake any other duties appropriate to the role as directed by Management.
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Excellent organisational skills.
- Previous retail, customer service or guiding experience (training will be provided).
- Experience working in tourism, hospitality, visitor attractions or customer-facing environments.
- A keen interest in history, heritage and culture.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure, particularly during busy visitor periods and events.
- Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and evenings, including regular evening event duty.
- Experience handling cash, operating tills and processing card payments.
- A positive team player who is adaptable and willing to work across different areas of the Cathedral's operations.
- Ability to work independently and use initiative when on duty.
- Ability to demonstrate an understanding of the Cathedral's commitment to Safeguarding.
Desirable
- At least 12 months' experience in retail, hospitality or visitor attractions.
- Experience working in a heritage, museum, cultural or visitor attraction setting.
- Experience supporting live events, concerts or hospitality functions.
- Manual handling experience or willingness to undertake training (for setting up event spaces).
