Integration Specialist - ICT Systems and Clinical Integration

Overview of role:
The Integration Specialist – ICT Systems and Clinical Integration will play a critical role in delivering a complex integration programme spanning biomedical devices, imaging modalities, and enterprise ICT systems as part of a large-scale EHR implementation programme. This role combines business and systems analysis, integration design, and hands-on technical support, with responsibility for ensuring seamless interoperability between clinical devices, diagnostic systems, and core ICT platforms. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical teams, ICT stakeholders, and third-party vendors to deliver robust, standards-based integrations. The role offers the opportunity to play a key part in delivering transformative EHR capabilities that enhance patient care and operational efficiency.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Requirements Analysis & Stakeholder Engagement

Engage with clinical engineering, clinical, radiology, cardiology, operational, and technical stakeholders to capture integration and data exchange requirements

Translate business needs into clear functional and technical specifications

Facilitate workshops to define workflows, data flows, device connectivity requirements and integration points
Document current-state and future-state integration architectures and data flows

Integration Design & Documentation
-
Support documentation of interface specifications, including:
- Message structures (HL7, FHIR, APIs, DICOM, flat files)
-
Field mappings and transformation logic
-
Error handling and reconciliation processes
-
Support solution design aligned with enterprise architecture standards across
-
Imaging modalities (e.g. CT, MRI, Ultrasound, X-ray)
-
Medical devices and monitoring systems
-
Core ICT systems (EHR, PAS, LIS, RIS, PACS, finance, and other enterprise platforms)
-
Collaborate with vendors and system owners to agree integration approaches
Integration Development & Configuration
-
Contribute to integration development activities, including:
- Configuration of integration engines (e.g. HL7, API gateways)
-
Basic scripting or transformation logic (e.g. data mappings, message routing)
-
DICOM configuration and modality connectivity setup
-
Work with external development partners to:
- Clarify requirements and design
-
Review delivered interfaces
-
Support troubleshooting and issue resolution
-
Participate in code/configuration reviews where appropriate
Testing & Validation
-
Support the development of integration test strategies and plans
-
Support testing activities:
- Unit testing
-
System integration testing (SIT)
-
User acceptance testing (UAT) support
-
Validate data integrity, accuracy, and completeness across systems
-
Log, track, and resolve defects in collaboration with vendors and internal teams
Implementation & Deployment Support

Support deployment planning and release activities
-
Coordinate cutover activities related to integrations
-
Provide go-live support and post-implementation stabilisation

Ensure appropriate documentation and handover to support teams
Governance & Standards
-
Ensure integrations adhere to:
- ICT governance frameworks
-
Data security and privacy standards (e.g. GDPR)
-
Interoperability standards (DICOM, HL7, FHIR, REST APIs)
-
Maintain documentation in line with programme standards
-
Support audit, compliance and quality assurance activities
Qualifications & Experience:
Essential
-
Degree in Biomedical Engineering, Clinical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics or related discipline
- 2 years plus experience in systems analysis or integration roles
- Experience in healthcare system integration projects (Meditech experience desirable)

Knowledge and strong understanding of:
- Integration patterns (point-to-point, hub-and-spoke, API-led)

Data exchange formats (HL7, DICOM, XML, FHIR, JSON)

Experience working with integration engines and/or middleware platforms
-
Demonstrated ability to engage and manage multiple vendors and third-party providers
-
Experience reviewing technical documentation and validating integration designs
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills

Ability to translate business requirements into technical integration specifications
Desirable

Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio), with the ability to produce high-quality documentation, reports, and presentations

Experience in the integration of medical imaging modalities in line with DICOM standards

Exposure to tools such as:
- Integration engines (e.g. Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Mirth)

API platforms
Basic scripting or development capability (e.g. JavaScript, SQL, Python)
