As an assistant to our chef in our childcare facility, you will play a vital role in supporting children’s health and development by helping to prepare nutritious meals and snacks in a safe and welcoming environment. You will ensure that food is prepared in a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen. Keep a high standard of cleaning in the kitchen and utility area.
Essential Criteria:
- English Language Proficiency: Minimum B1 level on the CEFR (B2 preferred) to ensure clear understanding of food safety instructions, allergy requirements, and effective communication with staff.
- Food Safety Certification: Valid HACCP Certificate or equivalent food hygiene qualification.
- Experience: Demonstrated experience in food preparation and cleaning, ideally in a childcare, school, healthcare, or similar setting.
- Food Safety Knowledge: Strong understanding of food handling, storage, and sanitation regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
Meal Preparation & Service
- Help prepare, and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks according to approved menus and childcare nutrition guidelines.
- Accommodate allergies, cultural preferences, and individual dietary needs as required.
- Ensure meals are portioned appropriately for different age groups.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow all food handling, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
- Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, storage, and food preparation areas.
- Record food temperatures and safety checks as required for compliance.
Menu Planning & Inventory
- Assist in developing balanced menus that meet nutritional standards.
- properly store food and supplies.
Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate meal and snack schedules with childcare practitioners.
- Communicate with management and staff regarding children’s allergies and special requirements.
- Contribute to a positive environment by promoting healthy eating habits.
