Role overview
As QEHS Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving ACEL Energy's integrated QEHS Management System across our commercial and utility-scale solar PV projects.
You will ensure that our projects are delivered safely, compliantly, to the required quality standards and with appropriate environmental controls in place.
The role will involve a strong combination of site presence, management-system development, project assurance, subcontractor management and senior-level reporting.
Key Responsibilities
1. Health & Safety Management
● Lead the implementation of the company’s health and safety management system across commercial and utility-scale solar projects.
● Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, codes of practice, client requirements and company procedures.
● Provide competent QEHS advice to directors, project managers, site managers, engineers and supervisors.
● Review and approve project-specific Safety Plans, RAMS, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Lift Plans and Permit-to-Work arrangements.
● Conduct regular site inspections, audits and behavioural safety observations.
● Monitor emergency preparedness, first aid, fire arrangements and rescue procedures.
● Promote a proactive safety culture across employees and subcontractors.
2. Quality Management
● Develop and maintain the company’s Quality Management System and project-specific quality requirements.
● Support compliance with ISO 9001 principles and certification requirements where applicable.
● Establish project Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists and quality inspection processes.
● Ensure installation works comply with approved drawings, specifications, manufacturer requirements and relevant standards.
● Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), defects, observations and corrective actions.
● Monitor quality records and ensure adequate evidence is maintained for project handover.
● Support commissioning, snagging, punch-list management and final project acceptance.
● Work with project teams to reduce rework, defects and recurring quality issues.
3. Environmental Management
● Develop and implement environmental management procedures and project-specific environmental controls.
● Support compliance with ISO 14001 principles and applicable environmental legislation.
● Ensure project teams comply with planning conditions, environmental requirements and client commitments.
● Conduct environmental inspections and audits.
● Investigate environmental incidents and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
● Maintain environmental records and performance data.
4. QEHS Management Systems
● Develop, maintain and continually improve an integrated QEHS Management System aligned, where applicable, with:
● Develop policies, procedures, templates, registers and guidance documents.
● Maintain legal and compliance registers.
● Establish annual QEHS objectives and improvement programmes.
● Coordinate internal audits and support external certification, client and regulatory audits.
● Track corrective actions through to closure.
● Report QEHS performance to senior management.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
● Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Quality Management, Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
● Practical experience in a QEHS/HSEQ management role within construction, renewable energy, electrical infrastructure or a comparable engineering environment.
● Strong understanding of contractor and subcontractor management.
● Experience developing and implementing management systems, policies and procedures.
● Strong report-writing and communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and influence project teams at all organisational levels.
● Full driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between project sites.
Highly Desirable
● Previous experience within solar PV, renewable energy or utility-scale energy infrastructure.
● Experience with both rooftop/commercial solar and ground-mounted utility-scale projects.
● Relevant professional safety qualification and professional membership.
● Experience implementing or maintaining ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 certified management systems.
