This is an exciting opportunity to join Group Internal Audit (GIA) as a Senior Audit Manager specialising in Model Risk. GIA forms the third line of defence for Bank of Ireland and plays a key role in helping make the Bank better through independent assurance. In this role, you will lead model risk audits across the first and second lines of defence, working closely with senior partners, regulators and governance forums, while shaping assurance over one of the Group's principal risks.
- Lead the scoping, planning, delivery and reporting of model risk audit engagements across the first and second lines of defence, including Model Development, Independent Validation and Model Risk Management.
- Assess the effectiveness of model risk frameworks, controls and governance through high quality, risk based audits.
- Manage audit engagements to agreed timelines, budgets and resource plans, keeping the Head of Audit informed of progress and key issues.
- Build strong, constructive relationships with auditees and senior partners, agreeing findings and outcomes throughout the audit lifecycle.
- Coach and mentor colleagues, supporting consistent delivery in line with GIA methodology and use of Audit Board.
You bring deep expertise in model risk management within a banking or financial services environment and are comfortable working across complex governance structures. You can clearly explain technical topics to senior audiences and influence outcomes through collaboration rather than authority. Your experience spans regulatory expectations impacting model risk, such as Capital Requirements Regulation and IFRS 9, and you enjoy staying close to evolving standards. You are an inclusive people leader who develops others and creates an environment of learning and trust. Strong judgement, curiosity and clear report writing help you deliver assurance that is practical, insightful and valued by executive and Board stakeholders.
Experience with the following will help you stand out but is not required to apply for this role:
- Use of statistical tools such as SAS, Python or R.
- Engagement with regulators, supervisors or external auditors on model related matters.
A third level qualification in a quantitative discipline relevant to model risk management, and a recognised audit or accountancy qualification (CIA, CISA, ACA or ACCA), completed or in progress.
