As we continue to grow we are seeking a new Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding team. In this role, you will be required to assist our Senior Design Engineers in the preparation of detailed production drawings and models for the manufacturing process. You will also provide support to our team of skilled toolmakers on active manufacturing projects. You will be liaising with customers and suppliers as a 1st point of contact. You will receive comprehensive training and mentoring from experienced engineers.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a deep understanding of Lawrence Engineering's products, customers and manufacturing processes.
- Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Maintain compliance with Lawrence Engineering's quality standards and industry best practices.
- Input customer orders through our ERP system and prepare drawings and files for the plant floor
- Manage multiple projects, from design through to on-time delivery
- Order raw materials and consumables.
- Communicate project status and lead times to customers.
- Support colleagues as required.
Key Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of 2D Drafting and 3D modelling (Solidworks preferred)
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles.
- Good understanding of CNC manufacturing processes, including milling, turning, wire EDM, sinker EDM, and grinding.
- Knowledge of CAD CAM capabilities.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and deal with customers directly
- Literacy in computer operating systems and applications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, or a related discipline. A Senior Trades Qualification in Toolmaking will also be considered.
- 1 - 4 years’ experience in a precision manufacturing environment (including internships and work placements)
- Proven ability to work as part of a team and also using one’s initiative.
- Driven with a strong work ethic.
- Experience or knowledge of the medical device industry is desirable but not essential.
- Knowledge of plastic injection moulding preferred.
