Grovelands Childcare are currently recruiting for an experienced Afterschool Assistant in our IDA Athlone Centre. This is a part time permanent position working 20 hours ,2pm -6pm per week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise children during afterschool hours, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
- Prepare and serve healthy snacks or light meals.
- Ensure children follow hygiene practices (e.g. handwashing before/after eating).
- Assist in planning and delivering age-appropriate, engaging, and stimulating activities (e.g. arts and crafts, games, homework support).
- Encourage creativity, independence, and participation in group activities.
- Provide assistance and encouragement with homework and other educational tasks as required.
- Maintain a professional and friendly relationship with families.
- Assist with tidying up activity areas and maintaining a clean, organised space.
- Ensure materials and resources are used appropriately and stored safely.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and incident reports.
Desirable Skills:
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- At least 6 months experience in a similar role within Afterschool
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in working with children
- Ability to work as part of a team and follow direction
- Understanding of child development principles
