We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, caring and support children aged 3 - 12 years, in a safe, inclusive and stimulating afterschool environment, with a strong focus on ensuring active participation, fostering a sense of belonging, supporting children with their homework and learning needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Create an environment that celebrates diversity and promotes equal opportunities for all children, regardless of ability, background, or need.
- Identify and address barriers to participation for children who need supports.
- Use inclusive teaching and play strategies that enable every child to feel valued and engaged.
Child Engagement & Activity Planning
- Plan, lead, and support a range of recreational, creative, and educational activities that encourage physical, social, and emotional development.
- Promote positive behaviour and cooperative play through clear boundaries and restorative practices.
- Encourage and facilitate child-led activities to support autonomy and confidence.
Homework Support
- Provide structured time and a supportive atmosphere for homework completion.
- Offer one-to-one or small group academic support where needed, adapting approaches to suit individual learning styles.
- Liaise with parents to understand academic goals and support continuity of learning.
Health, Safety & Safeguarding
- Ensure the well-being and safety of all children, following safeguarding protocols and health & safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and child progress as required.
Teamwork & Communication
- Work collaboratively with other staff to plan and evaluate activities, share ideas and reflect on inclusive practices.
- Communicate effectively with parents, carers and external professionals to support each child’s development and well-being.
- Participate in training and staff meetings to maintain high standards and professional development.
Essential
- Relevant qualifications Level 5 or above.
- Experience working with children in an educational, childcare, or youth work setting.
- Strong understanding of inclusive practices and child participation.
- Ability to support children with homework across a range of subjects and age levels.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
- A proactive, creative and flexible approach to activity planning and problem-solving.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles.
We are currently hiring a Part Time Afterschool Practitioner.
