We are currently seeking an experienced Proposals Engineer / Mechanical QS to join our Commercial and Engineering team.
The Opportunity
This role is ideal for an engineering or quantity surveying professional who enjoys working at the intersection of technical and commercial project delivery.
You will play a key role in developing competitive technical and commercial proposals for bespoke pharmaceutical process systems, collaborating closely with engineering, commercial and project teams.
What You'll Be Doing
- Reviewing client specifications, tender documentation and technical requirements.
- Preparing technical and commercial proposals for bespoke process equipment projects.
- Developing detailed cost estimates for materials, fabrication, assembly, testing and installation activities.
- Obtaining and evaluating supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Negotiating pricing and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Supporting tender submissions and proposal documentation.
- Identifying technical, commercial and scheduling risks during the tender process.
- Participating in customer and supplier technical discussions.
- Maintaining estimating and supplier pricing records.
- Supporting project handovers following successful contract awards.
- Monitoring market trends and supplier capabilities to maintain competitive pricing strategies.
About You
You'll ideally have:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in proposals, estimating, project engineering or a similar role.
- A Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Experience working within pharmaceutical, biotech, food, beverage or regulated industries.
- Strong commercial awareness and costing experience.
- Experience interpreting technical specifications and client requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
The following would be advantageous but are not essential:
- Experience with CIP/SIP, valve matrix or purification systems.
- Familiarity with pharmaceutical industry standards such as GMP and ASME BPE.
- Knowledge of hygienic stainless steel process design.
- Experience using ERP, estimating or project management software.
