Job Purpose
To provide efficient administrative and reception support to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the medical practice. The successful candidate will deliver excellent patient service while maintaining confidentiality and supporting clinicians with administrative tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome patients in a professional and friendly manner.
- Manage appointment bookings, cancellations, and patient enquiries.
- Answer telephone calls and respond to email enquiries.
- Maintain accurate electronic patient records.
- Register new patients and update patient information.
- Process referrals, prescriptions, and medical correspondence.
- Liaise with GPs, consultants, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals.
- Handle payments and issue receipts where applicable.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR requirements.
- Ensure the reception and waiting areas are tidy and welcoming.
- Order office supplies and assist with general administrative duties.
- Support the Practice Manager with additional administrative tasks as required.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in an administrative or reception role.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organisational and time-management abilities.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and email.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Professional, friendly, and compassionate approach to patient care.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience in a GP practice, medical clinic, or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience using electronic patient management systems.
- Understanding of GDPR and patient confidentiality requirements.
