Job Summary
The Accommodation Manager is responsible for leading the housekeeping department and ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, and guest comfort throughout the hotel. This role oversees all guest bedrooms, corridors, public areas, staff areas, and laundry operations, ensuring that the hotel consistently delivers an exceptional guest experience.
The Accommodation Manager manages the housekeeping team, coordinates daily operations, maintains quality standards, controls departmental costs, and works closely with the Front Office and Maintenance teams to maximise room availability and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Housekeeping Operations
- Manage the daily operation of the housekeeping department.
- Ensure all guest bedrooms are cleaned, serviced, and presented to the highest standard.
- Monitor room turnaround times to support efficient check-in and occupancy.
- Carry out inspections of guest rooms and accommodation areas to maintain quality standards.
- Ensure all housekeeping procedures and service standards are consistently followed.
Public Areas
- Oversee the cleanliness and presentation of all public areas, including:
- Reception and lobby
- Corridors and stairwells
- Public toilets
- Lounge areas
- Meeting and event spaces
- Staff facilities
- Conduct regular inspections throughout the day to maintain presentation standards.
- Ensure public areas remain clean, safe, and welcoming at all times.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, supervise, and motivate the housekeeping team.
- Prepare staff rotas to meet operational requirements and occupancy levels.
- Conduct performance reviews and support staff development.
- Promote a positive team culture focused on quality, efficiency, and guest satisfaction.
- Monitor productivity and ensure appropriate staffing levels.
Quality Assurance
- Implement and maintain housekeeping quality standards.
- Carry out routine inspections and quality audits.
- Respond promptly to guest requests and housekeeping-related concerns.
- Work proactively to improve guest satisfaction scores relating to cleanliness and comfort.
Laundry and Linen Management
- Oversee linen control and laundry operations.
- Monitor stock levels of linen, towels, guest amenities, and cleaning supplies.
- Minimise waste and control departmental costs.
- Liaise with external laundry providers where applicable.
Maintenance Coordination
- Identify maintenance issues during room and public area inspections.
- Report defects promptly using the hotel's maintenance reporting procedures.
- Work closely with the Maintenance team to ensure repairs are completed efficiently.
- Remove rooms from service where necessary until standards are restored.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety, fire safety, and infection prevention procedures.
- Maintain safe storage and use of cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH regulations.
- Ensure all housekeeping equipment is maintained and used safely.
- Promote safe working practices within the department.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Manage departmental budgets and control expenditure.
- Monitor stock usage and purchasing.
- Assist with payroll administration and staffing records.
- Produce departmental reports as required.
- Contribute to annual budgeting and operational planning.
Interdepartmental Communication
- Liaise closely with Reception regarding room status and guest arrivals.
- Coordinate with Maintenance to ensure rooms are available for sale as quickly as possible.
- Support Food & Beverage and Events teams with housekeeping requirements for function rooms and public spaces.
- Attend management meetings and contribute to operational planning.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience in a supervisory or management housekeeping role within a hotel.
- Experience managing teams in a hospitality environment.
- Strong knowledge of housekeeping operations and cleaning standards.
- Experience with scheduling, stock control, and quality management.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation, including manual handling and COSHH requirements.
- Experience using hotel property management systems is desirable.(Oricle)
