The purpose of this post is to participate in the delivery of a high-quality Haematology/Transfusion Medicine laboratory service in co-operation with the Haematology/Transfusion Chief Medical Scientist, Consultant Haematologist, Haematology/Transfusion Senior Medical Scientists, Laboratory Manager, and Haematology/Transfusion laboratory staff. This role will require the ability to work in Haematology and Transfusion Medicine under the direction of the Senior Medical Scientist, Chief Medical Scientist and Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities & Accountabilities:
1. Perform routine work to the highest professional standards, as determined by the Laboratory Management Team;
2. Be responsible for the quality of their work and carry out their duties in accordance with Hospital policy;
3. Observe the strictest confidence when dealing with all aspects of patient or Hospital information;
4. In co-operation with Consultant Head of Department, Department Chief Medical Scientist, Laboratory Manager and other designated senior staff, participate in the introduction of new ideas and methods according to hospital policy;
5. Participate as required in the registration, custody and stock level of the Laboratory reagents and other materials held in the Directorate;
6. Receive and record details concerning mishaps, complaints and defects in supplies and equipment investigate the circumstances with appropriate team members and take the necessary actions and report the findings as required, and as determined by the Laboratory Manager
7. Ensure that policy relating to the Laboratory record-keeping is followed;
8. Co-operate in evaluating equipment, consumable items and research projects;
9. Facilitate arrangements, where appropriate, to introduce professional and/or other visitors to the Laboratory;
10. Ensure, in co-operation with the Consultant Head of Department, Department Chief Medical Scientist, Laboratory Manager and designated senior Staff, appropriate compliance with International and National guidelines and Standards for the provision of Laboratory Services and actively participate in internal and external quality assurance;
11. Participate in the provision of appropriate statistical and management information;
12. Participate in the commissioning of a computer-integrated management system for the Laboratory;
Make the most effective and efficient use of developments in information Technology for both patient care and administrative support in a manner which integrates well with the system throughout the organisation.
