We are seeking to recruit a Yard Foreman to join our team. This is an important hands-on role, requiring strong leadership, good livestock handling skills and the ability to work well in a busy mart environment.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the smooth running of the mart yard before, during and after livestock sales. They will oversee yard staff, ensure livestock are handled safely and efficiently, and help maintain high standards of organisation, animal welfare and health and safety throughout the mart premises.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
The role will include:
Preparing the yard before and after livestock sales ensuring the premises is clean, tidy and well presented
Managing and supervising yard staff on sale days and during mart operations.
Overseeing the safe movement, handling, penning, sorting and loading of livestock while maintaining high standards or animal welfare.
Coordinating staff duties before, during and after sales.
Ensuring health and safety procedures are followed by staff, customers, hauliers and visitors.
Liaising with mart management, office staff, auctioneers, farmers, buyers and hauliers.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate should have:
Good experience working with livestock, preferably cattle and sheep.
Good communication skills and the ability to deal with farmers, staff, buyers and hauliers in a professional manner.
Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic.
Hours
Monday 11am to until sale is complete and cattle dispatched.
Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8am to 5pm
Thursday 7.45am to until sale is complete and cattle dispatched
Saturdays are sometimes required for special sales.
Salary
A competitive salary is on offer commensurate with the experience of the successful candidate
Overtime is payable
