TITLE OF POST: Tutor for Professional Diploma in Healthcare Leadership
LOCATION: Remote
REPORTS TO: Manager, Education Delivery
CONTRACT TYPE: Specific Purpose
SALARY: €3,500 per module per group
CLOSING DATE: 31st July 2026 at 16:00
OBJECTIVE
The principal objectives of this post are to facilitate online tutorials for one or multiple modules of the RCPI Professional Diploma in Healthcare Leadership, moderate online learning activities and mark assessments. This role involves 2-3 hours per week for the 8 weeks of a module, plus marking of all module assessments.
Tutorial format:
- Hosted online
- Learners assigned to tutorial groups
- Delivered weekly to a defined curriculum
In advance of the commencement of each module, tutors will participate in a series of onboarding activities to prepare them for the delivery of the tutorials.
Each tutorial group will have access to a discussion board. Moderation of this discussion board will be the responsibility of the Tutor.
LEARNING ASSIGNMENTS AND ASSESSMENT
Tutors review participants’ assessments (including ongoing as well as end-of-module assessments), mark them, and offer constructive and meaningful feedback to each learner in their tutorial group. In advance of any assessment activity, tutors will be required to participate in standardisation activities. Further, they are required to participate in moderation activities as defined by the RCPI Learning Experience Designers, the Assessment Lead, and/or the External Examiner.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF ROLE
- Complete online onboarding and attend briefing sessions before each module.
- Contextualise standard tutorial templates and resources for the tutorial group.
- Facilitate tutorials as per agreed schedule.
- Contribute to, and moderate, tutorial group discussion boards.
- Forge relationships with learners, encouraging their interaction at tutorials and within their peer group.
- Monitor learner progress, attendance and identify potential learners in difficulty, monitoring any shortfalls in attendance and engagement.
- Mark all module assessments submissions in a timely manner and provide learners with constructive feedback.
- Participate in standardisation and moderation meetings for assessment at the end of each module.
- Ensure that all Royal College of Physicians of Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Other duties as may be assigned by the Education Function.
Tutors are sought who can deliver individual modules, or a combination of 2 or 3 modules, according to levels of relevant expertise and experience.
ESSENTIAL
- Recognised Medical Degree (MB BCh BAO or MB BS)
- The appointee must be in good standing with the appropriate registrations body in their jurisdiction
- Relevant experience[JF1.1][CO1.2] in Healthcare Leadership in a healthcare setting
- Previous experience of teaching and assessing learners in an academic environment
- Ability to teach and engage a multidisciplinary audience in an online environment
• Strong communication skills, including facilitating reflective discussion and case-based learning • Ability to link evidence and theory to real world practice
DESIRABLE
- Experience with a virtual learning platform (e.g., Brightspace, Canvas, Moodle)
- A formal postgraduate qualification (e.g., at master's level) in medical education
- MD or PhD awarded or submitted
MODULE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Module 1: Foundations of Healthcare Leadership
- Knowledge of healthcare leadership principles and theories
- Understanding of values-based leadership and ethical decision-making
- Knowledge of influence, relationships, and leading change
- Understanding of wellbeing and moral strain in healthcare
- Ability to apply leadership concepts to practice
Module 2: Healthcare Operations and Quality Improvement
- Knowledge of healthcare systems, policy, and governance
- Understanding of quality improvement and patient safety principles
- Knowledge of clinical risk management and data-informed decision-making
- Understanding of Lean and quality improvement methodologies
- Ability to lead quality improvement and change initiatives
- Skill in applying improvement methods to healthcare practice
Module 3: Leadership and Resource Management in Practice
- Knowledge of healthcare governance, ethics, and strategic leadership
- Understanding of strategic planning and organisational decision-making
- Knowledge of healthcare finance, funding, and resource optimisation
- Understanding of stakeholder engagement and collaborative leadership
- Knowledge of digital transformation and innovation in healthcare
- Ability to apply strategic leadership principles in healthcare practice
