Scope of Role:
The role will comprise of delivering structured, practical welding and pipefitting training to Mercury apprentices in advance of block release to college, ensuring they are technically prepared, safe, and confident prior to off‑the‑job training.
The role will also support the upskilling and standardisation of welding and pipefitting competencies across Mercury’s existing trades workforce, aligned to project requirements, quality standards, and best practice.
Training will be delivered primarily in Ireland, with potential support to European projects as required.
Key Responsibilities of the Role:
- Deliver hands‑on welding training to apprentices prior to phase/block release to college.
- Reinforce core welding theory to support successful college outcomes (e.g. welding processes, materials, joint preparation, symbols, safety).
- Prepare apprentices for college practical assessments through mock tests and skills reinforcement.
- Ensure apprentices understand safe working practices, tool handling, and workshop discipline.
- Conduct practical and theoretical training for pipefitting apprentices where required.
- Conduct practical and theoretical trade tests for pipefitters before placement and on active projects.
Essential Criteria for the Role:
- Time‑served welder and/or pipefitter with significant industrial experience.
- Strong hands‑on experience in welding processes relevant to Mercury projects (e.g. MMA, TIG, MIG).
- Practical experience in pipefitting and mechanical installation within industrial environments.
- Ability to coach, train, and communicate effectively with apprentices and trades.
- Willingness to travel within Ireland (and occasionally Europe).
- In-depth technical knowledge of Semiconductor & Pharmaceutical systems, tools, and equipment and installation techniques.
- Excellent communication skills for interaction with operatives and project teams.
- A clean driving license is required as travel to different locations is necessary.
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and standards.
- Strong work ethic and professional approach.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office and general computer skills.
Desirable Criteria:
- Knowledge of Orbital Welding and High Purity Systems.
- Be flexible and adjust to different training approaches to meet the evolving needs of the company.
- Strong organisational skills.
