We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Estimator to join our growing construction team in Galway. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and tender submissions for a range of residential, commercial, and civil construction projects. This role requires strong analytical skills, commercial awareness, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, suppliers, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Review tender documentation, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Prepare accurate cost estimates for labour, materials, plant, subcontractors, and overheads.
- Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Conduct quantity take-offs and prepare Bills of Quantities where required.
- Analyse project risks and identify value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare competitive tender submissions within specified deadlines.
- Attend pre-tender and post-tender meetings with clients and design teams.
- Liaise with project managers to ensure estimates reflect construction methodologies and programme requirements.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, pricing schedules, and historical cost records.
- Assist with cost planning, budgeting, and procurement during project delivery.
- Monitor market trends and material price fluctuations.
Essential Requirements
- Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in an estimating role within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of Irish construction methods, contracts, and building regulations.
- Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Experience using estimating software and Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Full, clean Irish driving licence.
Desirable Skills
- Experience working on public and private sector projects.
- Knowledge of procurement processes and contract administration.
- Familiarity with Buildsoft, CostX, Cubit, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software.
- Experience with NEC, RIAI, or Public Works Contracts.
- Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) is an advantage.
