Role Title: Sports Editor (Wicklow)

Reporting to: Group Editor, People Newspapers
Location: Wicklow (Hybrid working)
ROLE PURPOSE
The Wicklow Sports Editor oversees and manages the sport sections in the Wicklow People and Bray People, in print and online (through Independent.ie), under the direction of the Group Editor and Deputy Group Editor. The Sports Editor will be expected to represent People Newspapers and Mediahuis Ireland to a very high standard.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES (Overview)
- Manage sports writers
- Match and sports event coverage
- Interviews and sports features - writing to a high standard
- Work closely with local photographers and contributors
- Help develop social media/digital strategy with the editor and the digital audience team
- Edit the content to a very high standard
- Develop new ideas
- Manage the sport sections and laying out pages
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
- Sport reporting experience and management is essential
- Full driving licence
- Demonstrate an appetite to increase market-share and develop the brands as the leader in local sport coverage
- Excellent communication skills required
- Writing, editing and page layout abilities
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Good working knowledge of social media and SEO
- Good leadership and decision-making abilities
- Able to work under pressure in a performance driven environment
- Tenacious with a ‘can do’ attitude
- Detail orientated
- Ability to make decisions in line with company policy on own initiative
- Strong collaboration and cross functional working together
