Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced QA Automation Engineer to join our team in a Hybrid working style. In this role, you will be responsible for improving and maintaining automated test coverage for Android-based POS software that processes millions of transactions across university campuses each year.
What You Will Be Doing
You will design, implement, and continuously improve test automation across UI, integration, and regression layers. Partnering with developers to resolve defects efficiently, and embedding quality practices throughout delivery.
Our app is built using Kotlin, Jetpack Compose, and modern Android development best practices. Our software runs on target hardware, and our application reads university credentials via NFC to support key user experiences, including event access, meal charges, and purchases using a student's university stored value account.
Who You Will Work With
You will work closely with Android engineers, product owners, and other cross-functional team members in an Agile environment. You will collaborate with stakeholders across engineering and quality to align on test strategy, triage issues, and improve product quality over time.
Key Responsibilities
- Improve and maintain automated and manual quality coverage for operator-driven and self-service Android applications running on target POS hardware.

Design, build, and maintain robust automated test frameworks and suites using Kotlin.

Own and evolve UI automation for Jetpack Compose screens, including end-to-end scenarios executed on real hardware.

Perform manual testing on physical hardware.

Create and maintain integration and regression test suites that validate interactions with Android system services, peripherals, and backend APIs.

Partner closely with engineers and product teams to define test strategy, acceptance criteria, and risk-based test plans.

Investigate failures, triage defects with developers, and contribute to root-cause analysis and preventive quality improvements.

Provide quality support throughout the SDLC process, including planning, implementation, QA execution, release readiness, and post-release validation.

Identify and mitigate technical quality risks, dependencies, and reliability issues.
About You
- 3+ years of experience in QA automation, SDET, or software quality engineering roles.

Proven hands-on experience designing maintainable, scalable automated test frameworks.

Strong proficiency in Kotlin or Java for automation code, test utilities, and debugging.

Experience with source control management, code review workflows, and test lifecycle practices.

Demonstrated success in defect triage and root-cause analysis in partnership with software engineers.

Excellent communication and documentation skills, including clear summaries for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Familiarity with Agile processes, specifically the Scrum framework.

Excellent troubleshooting skills across test failures, environment issues, and intermittent defects.

Comfortable using AI-assisted tools to improve QA productivity while validating outputs carefully.
Desired Skills
- Experience with Android UI automation, including Jetpack Compose testing practices.

Experience validating app behavior on real devices and target hardware profiles.
- Experience testing hardware-integrated mobile use cases, including NFC and peripheral interactions.

Experience with REST API and integration test automation.

Experience with CI tooling and test reporting/quality metrics.

Familiarity with AI-assisted QA workflows for test-case drafting, automation boilerplate, and faster troubleshooting.
