Environmental, Health & Safety – Assistant/Graduate

The Role
An EHS Assistant/Graduate in a switchgear manufacturing company supports the implementation and maintenance of environmental, health, and safety systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements and company standards. The role is particularly important because switchgear manufacturing involves electrical equipment assembly, metal fabrication, lifting operations and machinery use.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation and industry best practices.
- Promote environmental sustainability initiatives and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining EHS policies, procedures, and SOPs across all manufacturing sites.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement necessary controls.
- Assist with incident investigations, analyse root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support administration in the EHS Department.
- Assist with EHS training and awareness programs to employees and management to ensure compliance with policies and promote a strong safety culture.
- Monitor and report on EHS performance, trends, and compliance metrics to management.
- Support the development and execution of emergency response plans and drills.
- Ensure adherence to the company’s Safety Statement and Safety Policy across all sites.
- Collaborate with production managers and supervisors to ensure safety practices are embedded in daily operations.
- Remain updated on changes in EHS regulations and implement necessary updates to policies and procedures.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies and external auditors during inspections and audits.
- Conduct regular Toolbox Talks on EHS matters and on topics of the day.
We Require
· A strong knowledge of Health & Safety with a keen interest in Environmental.
· Proficient in IT; Microsoft 365, Excel, Power Point, EHS Management Systems.
· An EHS Qualification in Environmental, Health & Safety or a related field.
· Minimum of 2 years of experience within a manufacturing or similar environment.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
· Effective communication and people skills to engage employees at all levels.
· Preferable - CSP, NEBOSH, IOSH.
· Graduate applications also welcome.
