We are seeking a robust, dual-skilled Lead Maintenance Plant Fitter to oversee our heavy-duty waste processing facility. This role offers an excellent growth opportunity.
This is a hands-on position combining engineering expertise with people leadership. You will be responsible for rapid breakdown repairs, executing preventative maintenance, performing routine maintenance, leading the operation and run the processing plant during live production cycles to ensure maximum uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Heavy Plant Repair: Diagnose and repair mechanical faults on recycling machinery, including shredders, balers, trommels, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
- Production Operations: Actively run, monitor, and adjust plant machinery during production hours to maintain continuous, optimal throughput.
- Operations Leadership: Act as a leader on the floor, organizing shift tasks, mentoring operators, and driving a positive, collaborative team culture.
- Preventative Maintenance (PPM): Execute scheduled servicing to prevent critical failures caused by dust, debris, and heavy material wear.
- Organisational Management: Prioritize urgent repairs, maintain clean and organized workshop areas, and accurately log parts usage and shift handovers.
- Safety Compliance: Champion strict health and safety protocols, ensuring all team members adhere to Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Trade Qualified: Certified Mechanical Fitter, Plant Fitter, or equivalent heavy industry qualification.
- Dual-Skilled Competence: Solid mechanical background paired with team leadership capability.
- Industry Experience: Proven track record in a waste processing, recycling, quarrying, or material handling environment.
- People Person & Leader: Exceptional communication skills with a natural ability to motivate teams and resolve floor conflicts positively.
- Strong Organizer: Excellent capability to manage multiple tasks, track spare parts, and structure daily workflows systematically.
